It’s like a plague – the number of sites that have the Snap Preview plugin installed showing previews of links seems to be growing. i thought I was the only one that thought they were annoying, distracting and a total pain in the arse. Like blink all over again.
However a solution comes from Daring Fireball. The second question on the Snap FAQ page shows you how to disable the plugin via cookies. It works! Bliss.
I find it really annoying to. I tried CoolIris – a similar thing I thought would be a good idea. I disabled it within 30 seconds. It’s the indiscriminate nature of these tools that makes them annoying. And having some hot key to activate them defeats the purpose.
Well I think it’s more about HOW people are using them than the tool itself. Used in the correct way, even on a normal blog, they could be handy.
You CAN choose which links receive the ‘popup’ and which don’t. If you can do THAT they it should be easy enough, programmatically, to add an extra [preview] link after every link you want to have the popup displayed…
But yes, blanket usage is bad. That’s why I took it off my site after a couple of days..
