A new website has just been launched all about Glasgow called The Glasgow Story. The site is a collection of stories and pictures describing the history of Glasgow. Some of the content is excellent. Click here to see a picture of where I work, although its slightly more modern now (but not much).
Update on the progress of the webs favourite colour. Its definetly a drab red/wine colour, which is pretty surprising – would have though a blue based on the sky and water shots or green as a lot of photo’s have grass. The wonders of the net, eh?
eBay will give away user details to basically anyone with a fax machine according to The Register and The Sunday Herald. If true, what else can easily be accessed – how many websites are you registered with?
I’m surprised that Microsoft announced they are to close their MSN chat rooms from October 14th. I can only see this as a publicity and cost reduction exercise. The BBC website features some reactions from net users and also a poll which currently shows 55% against closing chat rooms.
Microsoft are pandering to the growing hype around internet safety and the parents who want the pc to be a ‘virtual nanny’ for the child while they have a bit of peace and quiet. They are also letting the corrupt few win over the vast majority of honest net users who are more and more being tarnished. If your an adult and use the net then you must be one of those dodgy chat room users.
Parental responsibility has to be encouraged to try and combat child safety on the net and they must do more to understand the potential dangers and what can be done to combat them. They should also reduce the amount of time their kids spend on the net – there are far healthier and more sociable activities for kids. Stiffer penalties for paedophiles are also required. And hopefully common sense will rule and most other chat rooms stay open before they are driven underground where control really will be lost.
Well the new Xbox Live site is now online and available for use. But it seems pretty rushed at the moment as its not easy to login too and all the features aren’t available.
For anyone having trouble creating a login the problem is in the telephone area code. The form only accepts three digits so if like me your area code is 4 digits, enter the first 3 in the area code box then begin you telephone number with the last digit of your area code. Crap.
The friends list doesn’t seem to be available at the moment and theres only score boards for Moto GP2. But its a start and the new XSN titles look good.

Missed this over the last week. Album sales are up on last year as seen in this article from the Guardian. Also worth mentioning is this article which mentions that 87% of people who download music tracks are likely to buy the album on CD. Both of these are in contrary to the perception from the music industry that the internet is destroying its business.
For years people have copied music. In days of old tape decks were used to copy music and more recently cd-writers. But now if I buy a cd chances are I can’t copy the music to my Ipod and I can’t copy the album as mp3’s to my car mp3/cd player. Some of the albums don’t even play in the car. This forces me into downloading the tracks from the net so that I can listen to them on all my devices. Farce. Its time for the law not to side with the minority in the music industry but the majority which is the buying public – if I buy music I should be able to use on any device I own.
Webs favourite colour is a site trying to find the….well….webs favourite colour (thankfully spelling colour correctly although the fact that I’ve mentioned the spelling of a word will mean I’ll now spell something wrong). At the moment with just under a 1000 photo’s logged the favourite colour is a dirty green(well I think it is). Better than beige though.
Got the subs copy of Empire this month with Empire Movie Almanac glued onto the front cover. Some really geeky facts like all the winners of the The Razzies, the players in Escape to Victory but it was the movie quotes that made me smile the most. Especially Ezekiel 25:17:
